This 2022, Mitsubishi promises better looks and performance in its all-new Mirage G4. After 10 years of existence, the Japanese automaker updates the exterior looks of the entry-level sedan to attract more potential buyers in the field. The groomed-up Mirage G4 not only promises a fresh design statement but also retains a lively yet duel-efficient performance with the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLS Sport 1.2 CVT variant.
There are four Mitsubishi Mirage G4 variants available in the Philippine market this year. The entry-level Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLX 1.2 Manual Transmission variant is offered at Php 769,000 while the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLX 1.2 CVT is at Php 819,000. On the other hand, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLS 1.2 CVT comes at Php 899,000 while the top-of-the-line Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLS Sport 1.2 CVT is available at Php 929,000. All variants are available in four colors – Red Metallic, White Solid, Titanium Gray, and Cool Silver Metallic.
Since the Mitsubishi Mirage is known for its fuel efficiency, the main component responsible for that is its 1.2-liter 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline-powered MIVEC engine that makes up to 78 ps and 100 Nm of torque output. As mentioned above, it can either have a CVT or a 5-speed manual for its transmission.
The Mirage G4 sits on top of an A10 platform and runs in a front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration. Balancing performance and comfort are its MacPherson struts with coil springs with stabilizer bars up front and a torsion beam rear suspension setup. For stopping power, it has 14-inch ventilated discs in the front and 8-inch leading and trailing drums at the back. On top of that, Mitsubishi added an 8-inch master vacuum brake booster to enhance the braking performance of the Mirage G4.
To ensure the 2022 Mirage G4 had a new character and better appeal, Mitsubishi gave it a facelift. The front fascia comes with a noticeable look that is similar to other Mitsubishi models like the Mitsubishi Xpander. It features a massive radiator vent slated grille with chrome accents that follows Mitsubishi's current exterior Dynamic Shield DNA. On both sides of the face of the Mirage are redesigned LED headlights that complement the shape of the hood. While down below are sporty-looking fog lamps embedded on the redesigned front bumper.
On the sides, the 2022 Mirage G4 is almost similar to its previous version. There are subtle character lines that lend an overall simplicity to it. However, its new set of wheels makes it look more sophisticated. A set of 15-inch alloys wrapped in 185/55 series tires provide contact to the road. Plus, it also has LED repeaters on the side mirrors for a more contemporary touch.
Unlike the redesigned front fascia, the rear profile of the new Mirage is almost the same as its previous generation. The taillamps and turn indicators on each side are still the same. There is a thick chrome bar at the center, right below the Mitsubishi logo badge. Down below, the reflectors are now vertical and the rear bumper is now emphasized and looks a bit lifted. When you open up the tailgate, 450 liters of cargo space is provided for your daily use.
Getting inside the new Mirage G4, you will be greeted with almost the same interior design as the previous version. The dashboard panel comes in hard plastic materials with piano black accents and a little bit of chrome. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and comes with function buttons. Behind the steering wheel is the same analog instrument cluster, but its display has been upgraded with new fonts for better visuals. At the center of the dashboard is a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
On the other hand, the passengers will have a relaxing cruise with the Mirage as it comes with decent cabin space. This means that there is more than enough legroom for all. Although the headroom is not enormously spacious, there is still proper breathing space. There are no air-con vents found in the back row, but Mitsubishi said that the air conditioning system of the new Mirage G4 has improved from before.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage comes with standard features that will ensure safety for all passengers. It includes dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, child safety locks, engine check warning, front and side impact beams, crash sensor, door ajar warning, seat belts, seat belt warning, central locking, engine immobilizer, and an anti-theft device.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage may not be the newest, hippest, and coolest car out there. But it sure is one of the most fuel-efficient we've ever driven. For the city, that's more than enough reason to buy one today. Don't you think?
