Will the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross replace the Corolla Cross?

The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross is coming to the Philippines soon, with many reports stating that the all-new crossover is already in the country and is just awaiting an official launch date to be announced.

The Yaris Cross will be available with three variants sporting two different powertrains. The first is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter gasoline engine similar to what you can find in the Toyota Vios, and the other is a 1.5-liter hybrid powerplant.

The new crossover is also priced around ₱1.5 million for its top-of-the-line hybrid model, with the lower variants expected to be somewhere in the ₱1.1 to ₱1.2 million range.

The relative sizing of the Yaris Cross and its price point has led many prospective buyers to believe that it will replace the Toyota Corolla Cross in the brand’s local lineup. So, it raises the question, will the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross replace the Toyota Corolla Cross?

Will it replace the Toyota Corolla Cross?

The Toyota Yaris Cross will likely not replace the Toyota Corolla Cross within the brand’s local lineup of vehicles.

The Yaris Cross will fill in the gap between the Toyota Raize and the Toyota Corolla Cross in terms of its size and price point. It will offer customers more options when buying their next Toyota crossover.

Remember that the Toyota Raize tops out at ₱1,056,000, while prices for the non-hybrid Toyota Corolla Cross start at ₱1,312,000. The gap between the two models is where the Japanese automaker will position the 1.5-liter non-hybrid models of the Yaris Cross for those who want a slightly bigger and more powerful crossover compared to the Raize.

Meanwhile, the Yaris Cross hybrid will be positioned just below the Corolla Cross hybrid at around ₱1.5 million to keep things competitive. It offers buyers a choice to either go for the more affordable Yaris Cross or to spend a bit more for the bigger and more powerful Corolla Cross hybrid. Remember that the Corolla Cross hybrid starts at ₱1,680,000 for the non-GRS model, which can be expensive for those on a budget but still want a fuel-efficient crossover.

In this manner, Toyota Philippines will offer its customers a more comprehensive range of choices for its crossovers, especially for those who want a more affordable hybrid option different from the Corolla Cross.

The Corolla Cross will be here to stay as Toyota Philippines will soon have a compressive lineup of hybrid crossovers at varying price points for you to choose from.

Do you think Toyota Philippines should keep or remove the Corolla Cross in favor of the Yaris Cross?
