The Suzuki Jimny is known to be a capable off-roader despite its small size. It has won many fans worldwide for its “cute” design and versatility as both an off-road machine and a daily vehicle.
However, in Japan, someone has done something a little different with the small SUV by making it a capable time attack machine.
The track-spec is a second-generation vehicle version and comes heavily modified with the safety features needed to take on the Tsukuba circuit in Japan at maximum attack.
The time attack Suzuki Jimny is a far cry from its stock version as its front bumper has been deleted, and the SUV now comes with a roll cage.
Judging by its sound, the little SUV may have a modified engine under the hood or a different motor. The transmission appears altered or is new as the Jimny rows through the gears quickly while maintaining smooth acceleration.
The SUV also appears to have changed its stock exhaust to a larger one to help it gain some power. Admittedly, it produces an exhilarating sound as it passes by the main straight.
One thing we have to note is the stance of the Jimny. It is wider than its stock form, which we assume is a modification to give the vehicle better stability when cornering. The SUV is also lower than its stock form to lower its center of gravity.
The time attack Suzuki Jimny also comes with fender flares to ensure the wider wheels and tires are kept within the wheel arches.
The modified SUV performed exceptionally well as it was able to cross the line with a time of 1:12:056 which is impressive for a vehicle initially designed as an off-roader.
It shows that anything is possible if you have the money and the know-how, including turning a small off-roader into a time attack machine.
