Ctpl Insurance : Your First Line Of Defense On The Road 01

Car insurance is a must-have for every driver. While life insurance is optional, basic auto insurance is a legal requirement set by the Philippine government to ensure financial protection on the road. Safeguard yourself and your vehicle with the right coverage before embarking on your journeys.

Protect yourself and others on the road with CTPL insurance, short for Compulsory Third Party Liability Insurance. This mandatory coverage is a necessary safeguard against the common occurrence of roadside accidents in the Philippines. Don't overlook the importance of CTPL insurance in ensuring your peace of mind while driving.

What is CTPL?

CTPL, short for Compulsory Third Party Liability, provides crucial financial protection for the medical expenses of a third party injured in an accident involving your car.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1693220208459-0'); });

CTPL, although affordable, is a basic insurance coverage that solely protects the third party involved in an accident. It is a requirement by the government for vehicle registration and does not provide coverage for you or your car.

How much is a CTPL policy?

The cost of a CTPL policy can vary depending on the insurance provider, where you purchase it, and the type of vehicle you own. Prices range from around P300 to over P1,250. Motorcycles usually have the lowest rates, followed by passenger cars, light and medium trucks, and finally heavy trucks and buses.

The following is the purchase price list for reference:

VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION PREMIUM (Inclusive of Taxes)
Private Car Including Jeeps and Utility Vehicles ₱ 560.00
Light or Medium Trucks (Own Goods) Not Over 3,930kgs. ₱ 610.00
Heavy Trucks (Own Goods) and Private Buses over 3,930kgs. ₱ 1,200.00

Taxi, PUJ and Mini Bus ₱ 1,100.00
PUB and Tourist Bus ₱ 1,450.00

What is the coverage of CTPL?

Ensure compliance with the law and protect against third-party liabilities with CTPL, a mandatory car insurance policy. It provides coverage for bodily injury resulting from unexpected accidents, but remember that it does not include coverage for you or your passengers.

Note before buying

1.Complete the required fields (*) with the correct vehicle and owner information when filling out the policy.

NOTE: Take extra care in filling out the following: MV File Number, Serial/Chassis Number, Motor/Engine Number, Plate Number. Incorrect information will leave your application unapproved.

2.Check that your Plate Number is already uploaded in the LTO database.

3.Check that your vehicle is due for registration.

4.Note period of coverage:

Once you register your vehicle, the insurance coverage will begin on the 1st day of the following month. The registration month is determined by the last digit of your plate number. For instance, if your plate number is ABC-2345 and your registration month is May, the coverage will be effective from June 1, 2018, to June 1, 2019.

Even if you're applying for late registration, your CTPL insurance will still be effective from the original policy start date. However, there's an additional requirement for retro-active policies: there should be no loss or accidents from the requested policy start date up to the date of online purchase.

What other car insurance products should you consider?

While CTPL is a necessary starting point, it's essential to explore additional coverage options to ensure you're adequately protected.

Some key insurance products to consider are:

  • Property Damage Protection: In the unfortunate event of an accident where you are at fault, having property damage coverage in your insurance policy can provide crucial financial protection. This coverage takes care of repairs to other vehicles, property damage, and other non-human damages. In addition, it can help cover legal fees if a case is filed against you.
  • Bodily Injury Coverage: Ensure you have the necessary financial protection in case of an accident involving another person. This aspect of your insurance coverage safeguards you by covering the medical expenses, hospitalization fees, lost wages, emotional distress damages, and potential legal fees incurred by the injured party.
  • Personal Injury coverage / Auto personal accident: Don't overlook the importance of personal injury coverage for you and your passengers. This aspect of your insurance provides vital financial protection by covering medical expenses and hospitalization fees for any necessary treatment.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: No one wants to think about the worst-case scenarios, but they can happen unexpectedly. It provides financial protection for your vehicle against various non-natural events like theft, vandalism, fire, and more.
  • Acts of God Coverage: Nature can be unpredictable, especially in a country like the Philippines. That's why it's wise to consider adding 'Acts of Nature' coverage to your insurance policy. This option provides financial protection in case your car suffers damage from flooding, typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
