Despite issues surrounding the 2024 Toyota Vios AC100 about its previous safety testing, the popular Japanese sedan still got a five-star rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP).
However, this would break with a sharp edge that could cause injury to the occupant when the side airbag is deployed.
However, Toyota quickly resolved this issue with company chair Akio Toyoda personally apologizing for the problem. Since then, the Japanese automaker has not decided to recall these units as they have already been confirmed to pass the UN-R95 side-impact test.
The 2024 Toyota Vios was tested under the 2021 to 2025 testing protocols of the ASEAN NCAP, which are the strictest yet.
Instead of the typical three-category testing, the new protocols add a fourth for motorcyclist safety. The new Vios scored:
35.25 out of 40 in Adult Occupant Protection
16.64 out of 20 in Child Occupant Protection
16.08 out of 20 in Safety Assist
10.73 out of 20 in Motorcyclist Safety
With a total score of 78.70, the Vios is eligible for a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating.
It shows that despite initial worries about the vehicle’s side impact protection, it is still one of the safest vehicles available today.
There is no word yet as to when the 2024 Toyota Vios AC100 will officially enter the Philippine market. But some reports hint at a launch in the fourth quarter of 2023 or the first quarter of 2024.
It's now a waiting game to see what Toyota Motor Philippines will do to bring the all-new Vios into the country, especially with its commitments under the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy program.
