5 Eye-catching Show Pieces at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show

They say that if you don't look back at your car after you've parked it, then you've bought the wrong car. It sounds rather simplistic, but we must admit that there is quite a bit of truth. Here are some head turners on display at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show that would make anyone's garage a wonderful, happy place.

Toyota GR 86

Branded with the Gazoo Racing badge that celebrates Toyota's racing spirit, the GR 86 comes in with better steering feedback and sharper handling. It is an exciting upgrade and a great homage to the revered Toyota 86 line. Now fitted with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder, horizontally opposed, DOHC, 16-valve engine, 18-inch wheels, and a more aerodynamically sculpted form, the GR 86 is a full-blooded sports car ready for the track. There is no holding back with its powerful performance at 237 ps and 250 Nm maximum output and maximum torque.

The next-generation Toyota 86 is now in Gazoo Racing guise.

Kia EV6

The EV6, as the first dedicated Kia EV, is a showcase of human-centered, progressive design and electrified power. It is a distinctive, impactful design that will define Kia's future. Notable accolades include the 2022 iF Design Award and the 2022 Red Dot Award.

The EV6 can travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge (based on EPA rating). With maximum 350Nm torque, the EV6 can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 7.3 seconds. The 77.4 kWh battery pack is paired with a 168 kW (229ps) electric motor powering the rear wheels.

Kia's first dedicated electric vehicle platform, the EV6, drew in admirers at PIMS.

Mazda CX-8

Concentrating on proportions, form, and fine details, the CX-8 continues with a strong, mature, and dignified road presence, brought to new heights with Mazda's KODO design language. The redesigned gun metallic front grille further enhances the contemporary yet edgy design with interlocking elements, front bumper chrome garnish, bright silver 19-inch alloy wheels, and large dual tailpipes.

The CX-8 comes with the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine mated to a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic with manual shift mode and cruise control. Making 190 PS at 6,000 rpm and 252 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, it is a car that drivers and passengers alike will enjoy around town and on long drives.

The 2023 Mazda CX-8 proves that people-movers can be sleek and sexy.

Honda HR-V RS Turbo

The all-new Honda HR-V RS Turbo features an exterior design finished with a Sporty Chrome Front Grille and RS Design bumper with Red Amp Up Line logo on the lower bumper. In addition, a set of bigger 18-inch RS Design Gray alloy wheels and a first-time feature for the HR-V, the LED sequential turn signal. To make it more aggressive looking, this RS Turbo variant also gets a Smoked LED Light Bar and a Glossy Black with Chrome Bumper. On the side, the HR-V RS Turbo has a Side Sill Garnish with Chrome, paired with Side Sill Garnish Glossy Black to give the range-topping variant an elevated sporty image and design.

The Honda HR-V RS Turbo is propelled by a 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged engine that generates a mighty 177 ps and 240 Nm of torque. The mill is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for a more refined and fuel-efficient driving experience.

The latest addition to the Honda HR-V lineup adds a turbocharger and styling enhancements.

BMW iX

BMW created a new design language for the iX – expressive but not overloaded. Intelligent, but not complicated. Its elegant minimalism and state-of-the-art Shy Tech features, combined with the panoramic glass roof, create a unique sense of space that turns traveling into a completely new experience.

The BMW iX xDrive40 is inching closer to the Php 7-million mark. Such is the price of quality, luxury, and performance.

With a range of 372 to 425 kilometers, it is ideal for everyday and long-distance journeys. Two powerful electric motors combined with electric all-wheel drive not only deliver efficiency but also elevate the BMW iX's power to sports car levels: 326 ps and noiseless acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
