Is the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross the mini Montero Sport you've always wanted?

And there’s really a lot to look forward to as it promises to be better than the previous model. For starters, a lot of exterior changes have been made to the updated model, making it look more like a sport-utility vehicle (SUV).

But what’s surprising here is the fact that several components were adopted from the larger Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV.

Cabin styling traits

Let’s begin with the interior of the 2023 Xpander Cross where we can immediately spot the most obvious component adopted from the Montero Sport.

This is none other than the thick steering wheel with integrated audio and menu controls, giving the feeling of driving an SUV.

Next would be the instrument panel of the Xpander Cross that also uses an 8-inch LCD screen that is highly similar to that found on the Montero Sport.

Beefier suspension

Moving to the mechanical underpinnings, the Xpander Cross received improvements to the rear suspension by utilizing larger shock absorbers belonging to the Montero Sport.

According to PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia general manager of product strategy division Guntur Harling, the valves of the shocks are the ones used by premium European sedans and have been adapted to the seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle.

The result is a more comfortable ride quality for the driver and passengers on the two rear seat rows. The flexibility and practicality of the cabin are still the points of excellence in its class.

Passenger comfort is further aided by Micron Air Filtration that maintains the air quality circulating inside the cabin.

Active Yaw Control

One of the important safety features of the 2023 Xpander Cross is the Active Yaw Control, which offers greater control on slippery roads.

This safety feature improves cornering performance by adjusting the braking force on the front wheels to optimize vehicle stability when cornering quickly or driving on slippery road surfaces.

Working together with the anti-lock brakes and the Active Stability Control, this system supports driving safety and comfort in various weather and road conditions.

Do you think the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is a more affordable substitute for the Montero Sport?
