2023 JMS: The Toyota FT-Se concept could be a next generation sports car in the making

The Toyota FT-Se concept debuts at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show as a possible preview of its next generation of sports cars.

The 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) is an interesting event, especially for Toyota, as it has revealed its new FT-Se two-seater concept car with Gazoo Racing branding.

While it's still a concept, the Toyota GR Supra and Toyota GR86 may soon have another sibling joining the performance lineup.

The FT-Se debuted at the event on Oct. 25, 2023 with a bright orange paint job with a black roof to fit its sleek, angular, sporty design.

Notably, it has a massive air intake on the front of the car, along with door mirrors and handles. These indicate that it might not be a purely electric vehicle.

Interestingly, the car has thin LED headlights that go under the car. It's a rather odd addition, but does add a futuristic and sporty touch to the concept.

At the back, the concept gets LED strips for its taillights, giving it the optical illusion of a bigger vehicle and a more aggressive stance with greater road presence.

Press photos of the vehicle also show it on a race track with a large fixed wing, indicating it might be a sports car if and when it enters production. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the car looks good regardless of whether it has its aero element.

Minimalist interior

Interior photos of the concept reveal a minimalist cabin with three digital displays.

The first is for the instrument cluster, while the other two are presumably for the vehicle's air conditioning and other controls. Notably, it gets a yoke-like steering wheel, which differs from anything Toyota has released thus far.

Regarding its drivetrain, Toyota has yet to release any information on the matter. Still, given that it does come with air intakes at the front, it could mean that the FT-Se could still use an internal-combustion engine, possibly in a hybrid configuration.

The concept could be the brand's preview of its next generation sports cars that have entered the era of electricification.

The Toyota FT-3e debuted at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) on Oct. 25, 2023 as a new, edgy electric crossover. The concept electric vehicle (EV) takes on the brand’s more futuristic and angular styling that it envisions for its next generation of EVs. Aside from this, it has wide light bars and a “floating” roof spoiler that gives it a similar look to its cousin, the bZ4X crossover. The concept gets its name from the FT letters, which stand for “Future Toyota,” while the “3” indicates that i
The 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) has set the stage for Mazda as it unveiled its new Iconic SP concept car on Oct. 25, 2023. The new sports car is slightly bigger than the Mazda MX-5, which could indicate a Mazda RX-7 successor. It is 4,180 mm long, 2,103 mm wide and 1,148 mm tall. This is 266 mm longer than the current generation MX-5 and 104 mm shorter than the FD3S RX-7. The R35 Nissan GT-R is turning 16 years old on December 2023. Put another way, the legendary Japanese supercar has been in production longer than all of its all-wheel-drive Skyline GT-R predecessors combined (the range was produced from 1989 to 2002). Although the R35 still has what it takes to do battle with the latest European supercars, its time will eventually come to an end. And perhaps, the next generation of this iconic nameplate can be found in the Nissan Hyper Force concept electric veh
The Lexus LS was a game-changer when it was introduced in 1989, leaving European luxury carmakers in a cold sweat. With its unmatched refinement, impeccable performance and superb value for money, the LS has long been the Japanese luxury marque’s flagship model, with the latest LS featuring advanced hybrid-electric vehicle technology. But with Lexus’ aim to sell exclusively electric vehicles (EV) by 2035, the LS may not remain for long. Meet its replacement, the LF-ZL concept, which was launched
