The 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) is an interesting event, especially for Toyota, as it has revealed its new FT-Se two-seater concept car with Gazoo Racing branding.
While it's still a concept, the Toyota GR Supra and Toyota GR86 may soon have another sibling joining the performance lineup.
The FT-Se debuted at the event on Oct. 25, 2023 with a bright orange paint job with a black roof to fit its sleek, angular, sporty design.
Notably, it has a massive air intake on the front of the car, along with door mirrors and handles. These indicate that it might not be a purely electric vehicle.
Interestingly, the car has thin LED headlights that go under the car. It's a rather odd addition, but does add a futuristic and sporty touch to the concept.
At the back, the concept gets LED strips for its taillights, giving it the optical illusion of a bigger vehicle and a more aggressive stance with greater road presence.
Press photos of the vehicle also show it on a race track with a large fixed wing, indicating it might be a sports car if and when it enters production. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the car looks good regardless of whether it has its aero element.
Interior photos of the concept reveal a minimalist cabin with three digital displays.
The first is for the instrument cluster, while the other two are presumably for the vehicle's air conditioning and other controls. Notably, it gets a yoke-like steering wheel, which differs from anything Toyota has released thus far.
Regarding its drivetrain, Toyota has yet to release any information on the matter. Still, given that it does come with air intakes at the front, it could mean that the FT-Se could still use an internal-combustion engine, possibly in a hybrid configuration.
The concept could be the brand's preview of its next generation sports cars that have entered the era of electricification.
