The current-generation Mazda CX-5 has been in the market since 2017. The 5-seater crossover is reaching its 6th year on the market, putting it at the ripe age for a replacement.

Most car manufacturers tend to replace their vehicles every five years to introduce new designs and technologies along with a new generation.

Mazda has yet to reveal the launch date of the all-new model, but it has confirmed that the new CX-5 will be in showrooms alongside its brothers, the Mazda CX-50 and the Mazda CX-90, sometime in 2025.

Reports speculate that the next-generation CX-5 will use the same four-cylinder engine options available today and will likely carry over its front and all-wheel drivetrains.

It is also likely that the Mazda 5-seater crossover will have a new hybrid powertrain available. However, details of the new hybrid system are unavailable. Still, speculations put it to be the same if not similar to the hybrid drivetrains in the Toyota RAV4 or Corolla Cross.

Toyota hybrid drivetrains?

It is important to remember that Toyota has a five percent stake in Mazda, and the two companies have already collaborated on several vehicles.

Toyota will likely supply Mazda with hybrid drivetrains as part of their ongoing partnership.

Still, take this information with a grain of salt, as Mazda has yet to confirm any information. 

Future plans 

The upcoming all-new CX-5 could be part of the Japanese automaker’s plans to produce electric vehicles. 

Mazda plans to build three electric cars, five plug-in hybrids, and five conventional hybrids by 2025. However, it has not been named or indicated what models it might be. Regardless, the new CX-5 with a hybrid system could be a game changer.
