Hybrid Yaris Cross headed to the Philippines as Indonesian exports begin

Barely a month after its ASEAN introduction, PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia's (TMMIN) Karawang plant in West Java has commenced exports of the recently launched Toyota Yaris Cross, and it looks like the Philippines is on the list.
Shown in an audio-visual presentation during the Yaris Cross production and export ceremonies held June 13th, a graphic pointed to the Philippines as one of the export destinations of the all-new Yaris Cross.

The Indonesian plant also assembles the all-new Toyota Innova Zenix in both ICE and hybrid versions and will be the source of the Innova Zenix hybrid slated for Philippine launch soon. The battery packs for both models are also assembled in the facility.

According to TMMIN President Director Warih Andang Tjahjono, the Yaris Cross contains 80% locally-sourced content. This means much of the parts and materials used in the all-new Yaris Cross is sourced from 116 Indonesian suppliers.

Automotive manufacturing has been taking off in Indonesia lately. After Thailand, Indonesia is now becoming another manufacturing hub for various brands for domestic and export consumption.

The all-new Indonesian-built Toyota Yaris Cross was made for the ASEAN market as well. Designed by Daihatsu, it is a 4,310 mm long urban crossover with 260mm ground clearance making it ideal for rough roads and floods prevalent in ASEAN countries.

The all-new Yaris Cross' hybrid powertrain features a 1,500 cc 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 91 PS and 121 Nm of torque. It integrates with a lithium-ion battery-powered electric motor that outputs 80 PS and 141 Nm of torque and a CVT transmission. It also has an EV mode which allows for solely battery-operated propulsion.
