Chery Auto Philippines announced in a July 2023 press statement that the first batch of the subcompact Chery Tiggo 5x Pro, which will also feature a mild-hybrid powertrain, has arrived in the Philippines.
The Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid and Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid, which were both showcased at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show, are expected to officially launch on July 2023.
Like the Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid, the Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine mated to 48-volt belt-starter generator system.
The powertrain’s combined output is at 158 PS and 230 Nm of torque, which are coursed through a continuously variable transmission.
The mild-hybrid crossover also features a stop-start system, along with regenerative coasting and braking functions, to help lower fuel consumption.
Chery Auto Philippines claims the mild-hybrid system reduces harmful emissions by 14 percent and improves fuel economy by 13 percent.
Coolray rival
The Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid carries over the looks of the non-hybrid model.
Up front are large projector headlights that flank a prominent hexagonal grill with chrome accents. LED daytime running lights are in the lower bumper, along with sporty red and silver trim near the undertray.
Down the side, an upswept beltline and matte-black lower cladding give the Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid a cute yet chunky profile. In other markets, the crossover comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels and aluminum-look roof rails.
And at the rear, a little tailgate spoiler sits atop a small rear windscreen. These are complemented by large LED taillights and prominent dual exhaust tips in the lower bumper.
The Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid is expected to compete with the likes of the Geely Coolray and GAC GS3 Emzoom.
Clean, modern cabin
The Chery Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid is likely to get a plush leather interior with cool LED accent lighting.
Although final specifications have yet to be announced, the Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid is available in other markets with a digital gauge cluster and touchscreen infotainment system.
Other neat features include an electric driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charging pad and a 60:40 split-folding rear seat.
Cargo capacity is 330 liters with the rear seats up and 1,090 liters with the rear seats down.
