As the United States of America celebrates its Independence Day, so does a new Chevrolet crossover become free from the shrouds of mystery.
The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), which is the official importer and distributor of Chevrolet in the Philippines, officially launched the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Trax on July 4, 2023.
“The Philippines is the first country in Southeast Asia to launch the 2024 Trax, and we are proud to include this new generation crossover in our local lineup of exciting Chevrolet vehicles,” said TCCCI president and CEO Alberto Arcilla.
“The 2024 Trax is the first among several Chevrolet automobiles that TCCCI-Chevrolet Philippines has in store for the Filipino market, and it ushers in a new wave of modern Chevy models which are sure to be compelling choices for new car buyers because of their advanced technologies, stylish designs, and overall brand pedigree,” he added.
Unlike the old Trax, which was a subcompact crossover with fairly cute styling, the all-new model gets more aggressive looks.
The front end features a huge grill with high-mounted LED daytime running lights. A four-pronged chrome strip emanates from the bowtie logo, while the LED headlights and turn signals sit in swooping clusters in the lower bumper.
The Trax also gets curvaceous flanks, accentuated by the upward-sweeping beltline and indentations in the lower door. Depending on the variant, the all-new crossover is available with either 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels.
At the back, a steeply raked rear windscreen and split taillights offer a coupe-like profile, with the small tailgate spoiler and pert lower bumper adding to Trax’s sporty credentials.
Enough power?
As we reported before, the 2024 Trax is now powered by a turbocharged 1.2-liter, twin-cam, 12-valve inline-3 gasoline engine.
This produces 139 PS and 220 Nm of torque, which are coursed through a 6-speed automatic transmission. TCCCI said the body structure of the Trax executes GM’s latest Smart Engineering design system that “intuitively promotes weight reduction and reinforcement to load-bearing parts.”
The crossover is manufactured in the General Motors (GM) plant in South Korea.
Roomier cabin
Given that the 2024 Trax has moved to a larger vehicle segment, interior space has improved considerably.
TCCCI said the new model is 279 mm longer and 51 mm wider than the previous model. The longer wheelbase of 2,700 mm with a short rear overhang results in “generous legroom and cargo space,” with the latter providing a maximum capacity of 1,405 liters.
The dashboard includes a touchscreen infotainment system that is angled toward the driver for easier access. Other touches like the circular air vents, digital gauge cluster, flat-bottomed steering wheel and contrast stitching emphasize the Trax’s sporting pretensions.
Other amenities are Smart Key Passive Entry, Cruise Control, Electronic Parking Brake with Brake Auto Hold, reverse camera, rear air vents and Type-A and Type-B USB ports.
Comprehensive active-safety systems
All Trax variants come standard with Advanced Safety and Driver Assistance Systems.
Aside from electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes, this suite includes:
Cornering Brake Control
Engine Drag Control
Panic Brake Assist
Enhanced Hill Start Assist
Rollover Mitigation
Forward Collision Alert
Following Distance Indicator
Lane Departure Warning
Lane Keep Assist
Auto Control High Beam
Enhanced Front Pedestrian Detection
Low Speed Imminent Collision Brake
Integrated Brake Assist
Vehicle Forward Movement Detection
Starts under ₱1.8 million
TCCCI said it will offer three Trax variants at the following prices:
LT – ₱1,793,888
Redline – ₱1,866,888
RS – ₱1,948,888
The company added that the all-new Trax will be showcased in a series of roadshows in Metro Manila. It will make its first public display at the Rockwell Power Plant Mall in Makati on July 14 to 16, 2023 where it will also be available for a test drive.
