The Philippines won’t be the only ASEAN market that will get the upcoming 2024 Toyota Wigo with the smaller 1.0-liter engine.
Toyota launched the new Wigo in Cambodia on July 11, 2023, alongside the Toyota Yaris Cross. According to our friends from sister publication WapCar, the subcompact hatchback is powered by a 1.0-liter, twin-cam, 12-valve inline-3 gasoline engine producing 68 PS and 91 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the Wigo launched in Vietnam (also a left-hand drive market like the Philippines) gets the 1.2-liter inline-3 from the larger Toyota Raize. This pumps out 88 PS and 113 Nm of torque, which would make the Wigo more competitive against the upcoming 2024 Honda Brio.
In other markets, the 1.0 and the 1.2 are sold side-by-side.
Loaded
The Cambodian Wigo, despite the smaller engine, is very well-equipped.
Only one variant will be sold and it includes driver's side keyless entry, digital climate control, LED headlights and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There are blind-spot monitors, stability control, rear cross-traffic alert and six airbags, all as standard.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has yet to officially release the specifications of the 2024 Wigo, but prices start at ₱609,000.
The company said the hatchback’s full brochure will be released on its official website on July 14, 2023.
Meanwhile, TMP dealers told AutoFun Philippines that interested buyers may put down a reservation deposit of as little as ₱10,000 for the new Wigo. This amount is refundable and will be deducted from the vehicle’s price upon purchase.
Do you think the Philippine Wigo should have the same specs as the Cambodian one?
