If you take the 2022 Corolla Cross at face value,  there will be nothing left for the imagination as the car already looks good from the outside. Fortunately, car manufacturers like Toyota keep on exciting us with their latest innovations and developments. And cars hardly remain the same after a year as they are continuously upgraded to pamper us with better driving comfort and advanced technology.

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross has come a long way from its sedan predecessors. As a crossover, it is now also available with two powertrain choices - non-hybrid and all-new hybrid variants. 

Unlike the regular internal combustion engine, the hybrid technology of the Toyota Corolla Cross has a combined internal combustion engine and electric motor to drive the wheels. As with the Toyota Prius of more than a decade or so ago, hybrid technology allows for an electric motor to move the car. This is ably assisted by a 1.8-liter gasoline engine when the power demand is high, or when the battery charge needs topping up. 

Moreover, whenever you let go of the accelerator or step on the brake, the system regenerates power back for the batteries to use again. That is how it achieves stellar fuel consumption. The electric motor is also responsible for working at slow speeds, such as stop-and-go traffic in the city, taking turns, slowing down for humps, and descending, without the help of the fuel engine. With this technology, and with higher fuel prices today, you can save money from the minimized fuel consumption.

On average highway runs, the hybrid has around a 6 km/l advantage over the ICE Corolla Cross. But that only tells half the story. The hybrid will have less CO2 emissions and is better equipped inside and out. Granted, it's not as peppy as the non-hybrid, but that's not why you're considering a Corolla Cross Hybrid, isn't it?
