Mitsubishi Philippines has more than just a regular display planned for the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), as a Facebook post reveals some of its plans for the auto show.
Unlike newer brands seeking to make a big splash at the event, Mitsubishi has a slightly more modest plan.
The Facebook image post from the Japanese automaker indicates that it will be showing off a 1987 Mitsubishi Lancer as part of its heritage display and will be revealing a limited-edition, 60th-anniversary Mitsubishi Xpander Cross model.
The commemorative Xpander Cross will have, over the regular vehicle, a new tailgate garnish, mudguards, a rear bumper protector and a tailgate spoiler.
These unique accessories don’t come cheap as the limited edition model is expected to cost around ₱1,382,000, which is ₱54,000 more than the standard model.
60 years in the Philippines
Unlike the Strada, this special Xpander Cross has no unique stickers or decals. Instead, it looks like the regular model.
However, Mitsubishi dealers can give buyers of the multi-purpose vehicle a special free sticker with the MMPC 60th Anniversary logo, so you can let everyone know you have a limited-edition vehicle.
Aside from the exterior accessories, the 60th Anniversary Xpander Cross remains the same as the standard model. You still get the blue-interior accent colors, the digital gauge cluster and the Active Yaw Control.
Power is still the same as it has a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine pushing 105 PS and 141 Nm of torque. Unlike in other markets, the Philippine model retains its 4-speed automatic transmission.
It does get revised rear suspension, which the Japanese automaker says comes from its bigger brother, the Montero Sport.
We assume that the limited edition Xpander Cross will be the center stage for the brand’s display at MIAS 2023, along with the 1987 Lancer “Boxtype” and the brand’s AXCR-winning Mitsubishi Strada rally car.
