Aside from the pending launch of the Toyota Yaris Cross, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) may have another vehicle waiting in the wings for its time in the spotlight.
A 2024 Toyota Alphard unit was spotted in a parking complex in the southern part of Luzon, presumably in the Bauan port in Batangas. It indicates that the Japanese automaker wants to launch the all-new version of the luxury MPV soon but has yet to reveal any official launch dates.
With that said, we can look to other markets where the Alphard is available to gauge what specifications and features it will have locally.
New sleek and stylish exterior
As this is a new model, you can expect an all-new design for the 2024 Toyota Alphard. It will have a new front fascia with a massive shield-like grille, sleek LED headlights, and a new bumper design. However, based on the unit spotted in the southern part of Luzon, we can assume that the local model of the Alphard will come with a unique grille for the local market.
On the sides, we can expect the MPV to retain its minivan-like boxy shape with sliding doors on either side paired with large alloy wheels.
The Alphard retains its large tailgate design at the back but now sports a new set of LED taillights with a unique pattern. It also has new chrome accents, and the Alphard logo is still spelled out on the tailgate.
Two cabin colors
While it's a given that the new Toyota Alphard will come with a luxurious interior with more room, a simple dashboard layout, and a massive infotainment system in the middle. It may come with two interior color scheme options.
The first will be a black interior trim, while the second will be the more premium beige, wood, and brown-like trim in Japanese models. It's still unclear which combination Toyota will bring in, but the black interior is usually the safe standard for the Philippine market. Not that it would matter if you have the money and are willing to wait. In that case, customize the interior trim you prefer and just pray it arrives at the promised time.
Like what is available in Japan, the local model could have power Ottoman seats with a heating and cooling function. A massage feature may be available, but it's still up to TMP on how they will spec the luxury MPV.
We can also expect a new feature for the MPV: its Universal steps that appear on both sides of the vehicle when you open the doors. The feature makes it easier for small children and older people to enter and exit the cars comfortably.
New technology
Regarding technology, you can expect the 2024 Toyota Alphard to have a massive 14-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. It will also likely come with a 15-speaker JBL sound system and a wireless charger.
However, TMP may change these specifications once the luxury MPV makes its local debut to better adjust to the needs of the Philippine market.
Hybrid powerplant
One of the most significant changes to the 2024 Toyota Alphard is its new 2.5-liter hybrid powerplant. The gasoline engine alone produces around 185 PS and 233 Nm of torque. However, if you factor in the electric motor's power, which alone has 180 PS and 270 Nm of torque, the total hybrid system’s output increases to 250 PS, according to Toyota.
Aside from this, we can expect the new Alphard to ride on the brand’s TNGA-K platform, which promises to give it more comfort and better stability.
As for fuel economy, Toyota says that the new luxury MPV can do around 16.5 km/l for its all-wheel drive version and about 17.5 km/l for its front-wheel drive models.
Toyota Safety Sense
Toyota Safety Sense will now be standard for the Alphard and will carry similar features to what is available with the brand’s other lineup of vehicles locally. The MPV will access features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and a 360-degree camera with four parking sensors at the front and four at the back.
It will also likely get the brand’s Proactive Driving Assist, which predicts the driver’s inputs and adjusts the steering counterforce to support smoother driving by limiting unnecessary operations and preventing operational delays.
It may also come with Deceleration Assist when turning at intersections, which assists in early vehicle deceleration, enabling the driver to turn left or right quickly.
Parking may also become easier for the MPV as TMP may equip it with an advanced parking feature with a remote function.
Do you think the new Toyota Alphard will be a hit like its predecessor?
