The All-new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton has been unveiled in Thailand, revealing a complete pickup truck inside and out with new features and more power under the hood. Something interesting to note is that Thailand is the first country to sell the new pickup truck, with other markets to follow soon.
The reveal of the new Triton comes after months of speculation and teasers, especially with the Mitsubishi XRT Concept car, which was the basis for the styling of the all-new pickup.
The new pickup truck is a crucial product for the Japanese automaker as it represents 20% of global sales for the brand as it seeks to build over the success of the previous generations that were able to get 5.6 million unit sales in over 150 countries.
All-new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton brings a new generation of Dynamic Shield design language to the public as it now sports a tougher and broader exterior design. It now sports a massive grille that dominates the front fascia of the pickup truck, paired with its sleek LED headlights and daytime running lights.
The pickup truck's design was based on the concept of “Beast Mode,” which emphasizes the spirit of wild and audacious intensity.
Moving on to the sides of the Triton, it gets a new set of 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, which vary in size depending on the variant chosen, but it still retains muscular proportions with its flared wheel arches and body cladding.
Mitsubishi has also revised the pickup truck's A-pillar design to ensure passengers can quickly get in and out of the vehicle.
At the back, the pickup truck remains similar to its predecessor but now sports a new set of taillights and a slightly revised tailgate. Its bumpers are also new to fit the design of the vehicle better.
The Mitsubishi Triton is also bigger than ever, as it now measures 5,320 mm in length, 1,865mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height.
Spacious interior
On the inside, the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton sports an all-new interior with a layer horizontal style interior. It carries the brand’s Horizontal Axis Geometry design language, offering a spacious feeling and opening up the pickup truck to more storage solutions.
Regarding technology, the new Triton gets a 9-inch infotainment system, which we assume will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities and double as a 360-degree camera display with moving object detection. The pickup truck will also offer Mitsubsihi’s Connected Services that let you control certain aspects of the car with your smartphone.
The new Mega Frame chassis
The all-new Mitsubishi Triton now rides on an entirely new chassis made from high-strength steel. It also has reworked suspension components that not only make the pickup truck more durable but also more comfortable at the same time.
Mitsubishi has stretched the vehicle's wheelbase, extending it by 130 mm, and has widened the tread of the pickup by 50mm. It allows for more cabin space as the vehicle's body can be extended.
New 2.4-liter turbo diesel
Under the hood, the Mitsubishi Triton is powered by a new 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine that produces 204 PS and 470 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It's a big step up compared to what the old model used, which used to produce 181PS and 430 Nm of torque.
The Triton also comes with the brand’s legendary Super Select 4WD II system that lets you quickly shift into 4x4 mode on the fly and is paired with seven drive modes that will allow the vehicle to adapt to almost any terrain.
However, something to note is that the new 2.4-liter version of the Triton has yet to be launched and will be revealed soon. The pickup truck versions launched in Thailand still retain their old powerplant that produces the abovementioned power figures.
Better Safety
Regarding its safety features, the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton comes with the following available in its top-spec models:
Front Cross Traffic Alert
Forward Collision Mitigation system with pedestrian and cyclist detection and junction assist
Rear Automatic Emergency Braking
Blind Spot warning
Automatic high beam
Active Yaw Control
Seven airbags
ABS with EBD
Brake Assist
Mitsubishi Philippines has yet to announce when it will bring the new Triton. However, given that it has already launched in Thailand, we can expect a local launch of the all-new pickup truck soon.
