Mitsubishi has been quiet about its upcoming pickup truck, the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, with the Japanese brand only releasing teaser images. However, things have changed as the automaker has released a quick trailer to showcase the off-road capabilities of the all-new Triton. 

While the teaser trailer doesn’t show much about the final design of the pickup truck as it is still covered in camouflage, what we can see are quick clips of the Triton going off-road in various conditions with a brief glimpse of the interior with its massive infotainment system and its all-wheel drive controller knob.

A new chassis

However, aside from the trailer, the Japanese automaker has also revealed a few details about the underpinnings of the pickup truck. For starters, Mitsubishi has shown that the all-new Triton will use a new ladder frame chassis. While more information on the chassis is sparse, the automaker did state that it will achieve safe, secure, and comfortable driving for any weather or road conditions.”

Aside from this, Mitsubishi has mentioned that it will have a new double-wishbone front suspension and a leaf spring rear that will retain its excellent cargo-hauling capabilities while delivering a smooth ride.

A new turbocharged diesel engine

In addition to the new chassis, Mitsubishi has revealed that the all-new Triton will come with a new clean turbo-diesel engine that significantly reduces friction loss and increases output. 

No exact displacement numbers have been announced for the engine, but reports indicate it could still be a 2.4-liter motor which could come in the form of the 4N16 found in the Nissan Urvan in Japan but with a different tune to increase its power output.

In addition, we have interviewed various customers about their usages and needs and have repeatedly conducted development tests to meet the demands of a vehicle that works in a harsh environment. We are confident that this model will satisfy all customers around the world, from leisure use to commercial use. Please look forward to the unveiling of the all-new Triton,” said Yoshiki Masuda, Chief Production Specialist at Mitsubishi Motors.

The launch of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is only a few weeks away; it's still a waiting game to see what Mitsubishi has planned for its next-generation pickup truck.
