We are approaching the time when combustion engines are gradually phasing out. If you haven’t heard yet, combustion engines are expectedly to be phased out worldwide by 2040. This means that the argument between diesel and gasoline will finally end, as all cars will be powered by an electrified powertrain.
However, transitioning to electric vehicles is not an overnight thing, especially for people who are hesitant about its reliability. The charging infrastructures and support are yet to be established as well in the country.

Hybrid Vehicles
It is a type of vehicle that uses gasoline but is supported by an electric motor. Because of the blended power of a combustion engine and an electric motor, hybrid cars are a bit expensive, but not all.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is a compact C-segment crossover produced by Toyota in 2020. Following its global success, Toyota launched the Corolla Cross Hybrid version a year after. Currently, it is one of the most affordable hybrid car models in the country, priced at Php1,665,000 in the market. Powering the Corolla Cross is a 1.8-L Atkinson Cycle Inline-4 engine that can produce 142 Newton meters of torque and 120 horsepower, paired to a CVT.
Since the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid has the iconic Corolla name, it won’t compromise when it comes to its features and driving performance. But does its performance have what it takes to grab your attention?
Upon test driving, you would notice that it feels similar to the regular Corolla Cross. It provides comfortable driving, and the steering is also light. You could feel that the gasoline engine and the electric motor work hand in hand. If you keep it into its normal mode, the driving is quite comfortable. And if you put it into its power mode, it responds very well. Although it is not a fast car, the performance is phenomenal for a hybrid car. Overall, if you compare the hybrid version versus the regular Corolla Cross, there are few noticeable power differences. The gasoline engine gives more power than the hybrid, but the hybrid variant gives better handling because of the battery support. Nevertheless, both variants have their attributes.
