Honda Cars Philippines is set to launch the all-new 2024 Honda CR-V on Sept. 13, 2023.

The new crossover brings turbocharged power to its nameplate and a new hybrid variant that promises excellent fuel economy.

While a new generation of a popular model is sound, it also has a few downsides. All the latest technology adds up to a higher price tag, which is why the new hybrid version of the Honda CR-V is priced at ₱2.6 million.

It got us thinking  with a new price tag that high, what other hybrid vehicles would compete against the CR-V e:HEV? Here's our list.

Haval H6 Supreme (₱1,883,000)

One of the newer entries into the hybrid crossover segment is the Haval H6.

It brings a mix of turbocharged and hybrid power to the game, giving you a powerful yet fuel-efficient crossover. Its maximum output pushes out 243 PS and 530 Nm of torque.

The H6 also comes with unique styling, along with all the exterior features you would want, such as LED headlights, large alloy wheels and, of course, a moonroof for those who want some natural light in their cabin.

It also has a large infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and has a 360-degree camera.

As for its interior, the H6 has plenty of soft-touch materials, powered leather seats and plenty of legroom. While it is a five-seater, it has more than enough space to make everyone feel comfortable, with plenty of room to spare for cargo in the back.

Like the Honda CR-V e:HEV, which we assume will come with Honda SENSING, the Haval H6 has similar features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking.

And at ₱1,883,000, it is roughly ₱800,000 less than what you would spend on the new Honda hybrid crossover.

Toyota RAV4 LTD HEV (₱2,632,000)

The Toyota RAV4 LTD HEV is what the new Honda CR-V e:HEV is gunning to take on as they are roughly the same size and come with similar features.

Regarding power, the RAV4 has a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine under the hood paired with an electric motor. The hybrid system pushes out a total of 218 PS.

While Toyota hasn’t published the total torque output of the crossover, the engine alone makes 221 Nm and the electric motor produces 120 Nm.

Given that they are in the same segment, you can expect the same premium materials to be used with the RAV4. Space is excellent in the RAV4, with plenty of room for cargo at the back.

Safety is on point for the Toyota hybrid crossover as it comes with a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating and is equipped with the brand’s Toyota Safety Sense suite of active safety features.

The RAV4 LTD HEV is a bit more expensive than the CR-V e:HEV, but you do get what you pay for with the Toyota brand and the backing of its multiple dealerships nationwide.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV e+ (₱2,698,000)

If you want more space and some electric-only range, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV e+ could be another alternative to the CR-V e:HEV.

It also comes with the benefit of seven seats and similar features to what the Honda hybrid brings.

The Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV e+ gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a hybrid system. It produces a combined output of 324 PS and 545 Nm of torque.

And since it's a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), it can travel around 75 km in electric-only mode, with the option to recharge at an EV charging station or at home.

The Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV e+ has a full leather interior, power seats and a massive 12.3-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Like the CR-V, it also has a set of advanced safety features, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and a tire pressure monitor.

Understandably, it will cost you ₱98,000 more, but you get more power and more practicality from the Chery.

Toyota Camry V HEV (₱2,442,000)

If you want something more luxurious, but don’t necessarily need the ground clearance of the Honda CR-V hybrid, another vehicle that you can consider is the Toyota Camry V HEV.

Yes, we know it's a sedan and not a crossover, but it's an alternative if you are just looking for something with five seats and an executive vibe.

Powering the Camry is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine mated to a hybrid drive system. It pushes out 178 PS and 221 Nm of torque with just the internal combustion engine.

However, we must note that the electric motor produces 120 PS and 211 Nm of torque, adding power to the sedan’s driving experience.

It is available with Toyota Safety Sense, which gives it a host of advanced driver-assist technologies similar to what you can find in the RAV4.

Toyota Zenix Q HEV (₱1,953,000)

This is more of a left-field choice, but is close to the CR-V regarding space and technology.

The Toyota Zenix Q HEV is an excellent option if you want a seven-seater hybrid vehicle that isn’t from a Chinese brand.

Powering the Zenix is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine mated to an electric motor. They have a combined system output of 186 PS and 188 Nm of torque. While it's no turbodiesel, it does come with excellent low to mid-range power.

Luxury is the game's name for the top-spec Zenix Q HEV, as you get power Ottoman leather seats for that premium feel and vibe. Like the other Toyotas on this list, it also has the Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced driver assist systems that make the MPV much safer.

It is also cheaper by ₱647,000, which is savings in your pocket if you want to get a hybrid vehicle at a much more affordable price than the CR-V e:HEV.

Would you get any of these over the upcoming CR-V Hybrid?
